VE Manual : Written Tests Policy
The W5YI-VEC provides examination software to generate written tests for CVEs at no cost. This software should be used to generate all exams as needed for a test session. Each written exam is unique but should be used only once in any given test session to any one applicant. At a minimum, we suggest at least three different versions of tests for each license class should be generated from the software and duplicated for use in the actual session. We require that the CVE periodically change exams, at least every 90 days, to help insure greater exam integrity. All reprinted written tests are to be retained by the CVE and kept in a secure/locked location.

It is very important (even after a test session) that the contents of the tests are not disclosed to anyone. We strongly suggest giving applicants sitting next to each other a different version of the test. The CVE must keep track of tests failed so that a different examination will be administered to an applicant during subsequent test sessions. This is an FCC rule. (See 97.509(f))

NOTE: Concerns about preprinted or copied written examinations exists. However, individually unique, computer-generated exams, such as the ones produced by our exam software, pose no integrity problem if used properly and new exams are regularly generated.

The initial set of forms, software and exam materials are sent at no cost to the CVE Team Leader. Additional or replacement CDs are available upon request to our VEC office.
