VE Manual : Special On-the-Air Identifiers
VEs must advise every successful candidate operating under temporary authority (i.e. until the FCC database indicates their new license grant) that the applicant must append to their call sign a two-letter identifier preceded by either the slant bar (/) when using a telegraphy mode or the word "temporary" when using a voice mode whenever operating outside the privileges of their previous license.
No special identifier is required when operating within the privileges of the previous license. The following is a table containing the special identifiers for each license class:
